The American Automobile Association – AAA This is virtually the same as the AA in the UK only cheaper! We would strongly recommend any vehicle owner travelling in the USA to join the AAA. Take out the AAA annual membership that applies to your particular vehicle type. You will be covered for emergency breakdown assistance, including repairs at the roadside, if these are practicable. If repairs do not mobilise your vehicle, depending on size, then AAA will arrange ‘towing’. This ‘towing’ may not include larger automatic motor homes, which will have to be put on a low loader! Providing that you took out the correct class of membership. You will also be able to get route information complete with detailed maps, similar to UK Ordnance Survey maps, and tour guides together with information on local attractions, hotels and resturants. At any AAA bureau a member can buy commission free AAA travellers cheques saving around 1.5% on the deal. Dollar travellers cheques are as easy to use as cash. Plus you will get a full replacement or refund if the cheques are stolen. You will be asked to produce your photo ID either Passport or State drivers livence when you cash them. Each individual state in the USA has its own chapter of the AAA. The classes of membership and fees vary slightly from state to state. Remember that you must make sure that your RV is fully covered as some states charge an extra premium for this class of cover.
